“People today kept saying that I was so calm during the experience,” she said. “But I guess if there’s anything that inspires people from this it’s that I think we do all have that inner strength in us when something like this happens.”

On Thursday the Celebration of Life Award was given to the paramedics that attended to Mitousis in July. The award ceremony also recognized the bravery of her coworkers.

“Sometimes your coworkers become more than just coworkers,” Mitousis said. “That’s definitely very true in this situation.”

Mitousis said she was overwhelmed by the support she received during her recovery.

“That overwhelming response in July, August, made such a difference to me. It gave me positive energy and helped me get through the hard times. So I guess the message from me would be to do that for others.”
