Greyhound Canada announced Thursday it will start operations from its new location in Edmonton on Sunday, May 29.

The new Greyhound depot is at 12360 – 121 Street NW, five kilometres from its former location at 10324 – 103 Street.

The bus depot sits next to the rail station, just north of downtown near Yellowhead Trail.

Greyhound describes the location as an “intermodal facility.”

“Customers can now access Greyhound and VIA Rail under the same roof making it more convenient for travel,” Peter Hamel, Greyhound’s regional vice president, said.

The company said, since it’s no longer downtown, it has a dedicated taxi service to offer in-city travel and specific hotel drop-offs. Greyhound will also provide Sky Shuttle service to the airport. In addition to cab services, Greyhound will be providing customer downtown drop-offs and pick-ups twice daily at 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to the transit bus stop in front of the Edmonton Welcome Center at 9797 Jasper Ave.

Greyhound confirmed it was moving to the VIA Rail station on March 15.

The company had been searching for a new location for its main Edmonton terminal since it learned the building would be torn down to make way for the new downtown arena district.

The old downtown Edmonton location will become retail space as part of Ice District, an arena offshoot development by the Katz Group and WAM Developments.

Greyhound also has a location in south Edmonton, just off Calgary Trail at 5723 104 St. The company said operations at that site will continue as normal.
